Founding Turnstile band member Brady Ebert has been charged with attempted murder.

The rock guitarist, who split with the band in 2022, was reportedly arrested on Tuesday and charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault.

Ebert is accused of intentionally hitting 79-year-old William Yates with his car. Yates is the father of Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates.

The Montgomery County Department of Police stated that officers found Yates in his front yard with “trauma to his lower extremities”. According to a release, the victim had serious injuries, including a broken leg. He was transported to a local hospital, where he told police that the family has had “several previous incidents” with Ebert.

The ex-Turnstile rocker allegedly left the scene without contacting 911 or providing aid.

Detectives later found Ebert’s vehicle abandoned, and obtained surveillance footage that “captured the hit-and-run collision. They located Ebert and took him into custody.

Ebert is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit without bond, according to jail records sighted by Page Six. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for 1 May.

The circumstances of Ebert’s exit from Turnstile, known for hits Never Enough and Mystery, are unclear.

The band issued a statement after Ebert’s arrest explaining that they “cut ties” with him in 2022 in response to “a consistent pattern of harmful behaviour”.

“After exhausting every available resource to support his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence,” the statement read.

“In the years since, his baseless tirades have continued in public. We never addressed it. We chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances around his departure, even when he did nothing to be deserving of that protection. Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further.”

The band, which also consists of Franz Lyons, Daniel Fang, Pat McCrory and Meg Mills, said of the attempted murder, “We are grateful that Mr Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery.”
