Gorillaz announce first ever India shows

Gorillaz have announced their first ever shows in India.

Damon Albarn, Jamie Hewlett and co. are set to visit India in 2027 for their latest album ‘The Mountain‘, which was mostly recorded in the country.

The band will perform at District Arena at Terraform in Bengaluru on January 23. Then, they’ll travel to Mumbai, hosting a show at Jio World Garden in the Bandra Kurla Complex on January 27.

Alongside the Gorillaz live band, special guest performers are expected to appear at the concert, including the many Indian collaborators who feature on ‘The Mountain’.

Speaking about the tour, Albarn said that “it has been and remains a dream of mine to bring Gorillaz in all its technicolour glory to India. It’s just the beginning and I truly look forward to the experience.” Meanwhile, Hewlett added: “Our dream has always been to do a tour of India. We’re very excited about returning to play shows in Mumbai and Bengaluru.”

Recently, Damon Albarn has confirmed he is scoring Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI movie about the founders of ChatGPT – while giving his thoughts on the technology itself.

The film, called Artificial, will reportedly focus on the life of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Speaking to The Needle Drop, Albarn said: “I’ve been quite involved with AI because I’ve been making a score for a movie called Artificial at the moment, which is all about the founders of ChatGPT,” he told the outlet. “So I’ve had a lot of time to think about it. Music and art should not be easy.”

“Once it becomes easy, it’s meaningless,” he continued. “In a way, it’s the things you don’t see or hear that make it art. It’s a weird intuition that the listener has that picks up on the journey that the artist has been through to make that particular thing with the tone of the voice, etc. You can’t replace that.”
