The “Birds of a Feather” singer explained that her affinity for the stage began long before her global fame. “I grew up as a dancer, so that kind of theatre, bowing to each side… And also love being in plays as a kid and stuff. Like I love that side,” she told the presenters.
Turning the focus to her upcoming “Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour,” Eilish detailed her vision for a high-energy, interactive production. She admitted that she views her stage as more of a recreation area than a traditional performance space. “I want it to feel like a playground. Because I want to play on the playground,” she explained, noting that she often asks her team, “Can I have something to climb on?”.
However, some of her more daredevil ambitions for the tour have been met with resistance from safety coordinators. Eilish shared a wild concept that involved “swinging on a rope above the audience”. “Originally, the tour was going to have a rope that I swing on. And then I was like, ‘No, I need to swing over the crowd’ and they were like ‘Billie, you can’t do it’!”.
The singer was particularly resistant to the idea of safety harnesses. When her team insisted she would need to be strapped in for such a stunt, Eilish rebelled against the restriction. “I was like… ‘No! I don’t want to be strapped in. I want to grab on with my hand swing!'”.
