Check out Peggy Gou’s vibrant remix of Madonna’s ‘I Feel So Free’

Madonna has enlisted Peggy Gou to remix her ‘Confessions II’ single ‘I Feel So Free’ – check it out below.

Last month, the Queen of Pop released the song as the first taste of her new studio album, which is out on July 3, after giving it a low-key debut on LGBTQ+ radio station Pride Radio, and then performing it live during her surprise appearance during Sabrina Carpenter’s headline set at Coachella.

Now, South Korean DJ and producer Peggy Gou has released her own remix of the track, a high-energy, ‘90s dance-flavoured version of the song, built around clattering drums and squelchy synths.

Listen here:

The original version of ‘I Feel So Free’ included an interpolation of Lil Louis’ 1989 Chicago house classic ‘French Kiss’, and like the rest of ‘Confessions II’ was produced by Madonna and Stuart Price, who also produced its predecessor, ‘Confessions On A Dance Floor’.

Since then, she has released ‘Bring Your Love’, a collaboration with Carpenter, which also premiered at Coachella.

Speaking about the album, Madonna has said: “People think that dance music is superficial, but they’ve got it all wrong. The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: a ritualistic space where movement replaces language.”

“We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies. These are things that we’ve been doing for thousands of years – they really are spiritual practices. After all, the dance floor is a ritualistic space. It’s a place where you connect – with your wounds, with your fragility. To rave is an art. It’s about pushing your limits and connecting to a community of like-minded people. Sound, light, and vibration reshape our perceptions. Pulling us into a trance-like state. The repetition of the bass, we don’t just hear it but we feel it. Altering our consciousness and dissolving ego and time.”

Following her Coachella stop, she made made a surprise appearance at the LGBTQ+ club The Abbey in West Hollywood to debut new music last month at an invite-only event billed as ‘Club Confessions Los Angeles’.

Appearing at the DJ booth at around 1am, Madonna was joined by Price and Addison Rae, while Romy of The xx and Mez Monty also performed.

The new record marks Madonna’s first since her 14th album ‘Madame X’, which arrived in 2019. Around the time of that release, the ‘Like A Virgin’ singer spoke to NME about her relationship with being in the public eye.

“It has its pluses and minuses,” she revealed. “The great thing about being famous is that you have a voice and you can spread messages and fight for people who don’t have the ability to fight for themselves, and share your wealth with people who need help.”

Madonna has also been confirmed as one of the co-headliners for the first ever FIFA World Cup halftime show, alongside Shakira and BTS.
