Megan Moroney, who is the most nominated artist for tonight’s (May 17) Academy of Country Music Awards with nine nominations, will be a no show at the Las Vegas ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. But she has a very good reason.
As Moroney posted on social media Sunday morning, she is the maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding. Longtime fans of Moroney’s are already familiar with her friend, Natalie, who was the subject of her 2021 song “Wonder.” In that tune, Moroney is giving advice to a friend who is in the throes of a relationship with a man who keeps her on edge, not calling when he says he will and not treating her how she deserves.
Moroney then tells her friend that maybe he’s not the right guy for her and, even though starting over is scary, maybe she should wait for the one who treats her with respect, shows up when he says he will and “won’t make you wonder” if he loves her. Looks like Natalie took Moroney’s advice.
“I’m so honored to be nominated tonight at @acmawards & I’m rooting on all my friends from afar! I’m out of the country this week on MOH duty to get my bestie married,” the singer shared with fans on Instagram midday on Sunday, tagging Natalie on a snapshot of the pair wearing “Bridesmaid” and “Bride” sweatsuits.
It’s quite a busy time for Moroney. Tonight she’s up for the coveted entertainer of the year award, as well as eight other awards, including female artist of the year and artist-songwriter of the year.
Then later this month, Moroney kicks off her Cloud 9 arena headlining tour in Columbus, Ohio, on May 29. The tour takes its name from Moroney’s February album that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 all-genre albums chart. The album has already spawned the top 10 Country Airplay chart hits “Beautiful Things” and “6 Months Later,” which is up for single of the year tonight.
The ACM Awards will stream live on Amazon’s Prime Video starting at 8 p.m. ET.
