Gracie Abrams addresses “nepo baby” discourse: “I had a safety net”

Gracie Abrams has addressed the “nepo baby” discourse that’s followed her throughout her pop career.

The singer and daughter of director JJ Abrams is due to release her third studio album, ‘Daughter From Hell‘, on July 17 via Interscope (visit here to pre-order). So far, she’s previewed the record with the enchanting single ‘Hit The Wall‘.

Ahead of the album’s release, she appeared on the New York Times‘ PopCast, where she was asked about how having a famous parent has impacted her career.

“The nepo stuff is obviously in the discourse appropriately,” she said. “I think about the privilege there, and it’s like, I had a safety net, and that allowed me the ability to experiment and to concentrate, and I had the gift of time to dedicate to doing this thing I loved. I wasn’t growing up afraid financially, and that’s the biggest deal.”

Beyond the financial benefits, Abrams also spoke about the advantage of growing up with parents who understand both the entertainment industry and working in a creative field.

“The specific household that I was born into, there is just this vocabulary that I’m so lucky to grow up with,” she said. “So like, when I see people pointing that out, it’s like, I get it, hard-core. The jokes and things, I understand the tone of the Internet.”

Abrams recently unveiled the tracklist for the album along with runtimes. Songs like ‘Death Wish’, ‘Broke My Heart’ and ‘What If It’s Right?’, will be on the tracklist, with Abrams calling the latter her “favourite” song on the record.

‘Minibar’ – co-written by friend Audrey Hobert – will also appear on the album. According to Spotify credits, closing track ‘Cold Goodbyes’ will feature Marcus Mumford of Mumford and Sons and is the longest song on the record.

In support of the album, Abrams will embark on ‘The Look At My Life’ tour in 2026-2027. Commencing in the US, the tour begins in Denver’s Ball Arena on December 2 before heading around North America throughout the following four months.

Following that, Abrams will jet off to Europe to begin the leg in Paris’ Accor Arena on April 8. She’s due to play three shows at Manchester’s Co-op Live, two in Glasgow’s OVO Hydro and four at London’s The O2. The tour concludes in Barcelona on May 28.

Rachel Chinouriri, Holly Humberstone, Del Water Gap, Charlotte Lawrence, Grace Ives, Bella Kay, Jensen McRae and The Japanese House will support Abrams in the US, while in Europe it will be Samia and Jake Minch.

Elsewhere, Gracie Abrams has confirmed her acting debut in the director of Babygirl‘s next film.
