Bob Dylan’s guitarist Bob Britt shuts down rumour he was ‘fired’

Bob Dylan’s guitarist Bob Britt has insisted he wasn’t “fired” by the music legend.

The musician had been in the Mr. Tambourine Man singer’s live band since 2019, but he bid farewell to his bandmates over the weekend.

Joel Paterson is now reportedly Dylan’s only guitarist and performed his first concert in Austin, Texas, on Monday (29.07.26).

Britt initially shared an image of a flight on Facebook and captioned it: “Sayanora Bobby.”

When asked to clarify his exit, he wrote: “I quit.”

The vague post later disappeared, leaving fans to speculate that he had been let go by Dylan.

However, he shared an update and explained that he left “of his own accord” and would not be disclosing his reason for leaving.

Addressing the hearsay, he posted: “Apparently there are quite a few threads out there with people speculating about my departure from the Bob tour. I’d like to clear it up. I was not fired but left of my own accord for reasons I would prefer to keep private. I will miss my band mates

and crew. I am looking forward to getting back to doing sessions (give me a call) and also finishing up Etta’s gospel record.

As far as any touring goes, we will see what the future holds. Meanwhile, I have some flower beds to weed.”

It’s the latest departure for Dylan in a matter of weeks, after guitarist Doug Lancio was replaced by Julian Lage.

Dylan’s North American tour is due to wrap up in August, in Nashville.

Meanwhile, a new Dylan project could be on the way.

Last summer, it was revealed that he had spent two days at White Lake Studios in Albany, New York, with “members of his band”.

A press release quoted David Bourgeois, the studio’s CEO, saying: “We want every artist and guest to feel relaxed and at home.

“We’ve had the privilege of working with many remarkable talents over the years, but this visit was truly special.

“I’m incredibly proud of our team.”

No other details on the recording sessions were disclosed.

Dylan embarked on his Rough And Rowdy Ways world tour in 2021, and he has treated fans to surprise deep cuts like I Shall Be Released and You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere, while at a Dublin show in November 2025, he covered A Rainy Night In Soho as a tribute to late Pogues icon Shane MacGowan.

Most recently, he dusted off I Shall Be Released and You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere.
