New supergroup featuring members of Green Day, Blink-182 and more form for Ramones tribute night

Members of Green Day, Blink-182, Rancid and Ramones are joining forces for a punk supergroup.

The rock legends are coming together as Cretin Family for an official 50th anniversary tribute show to the Ramones at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angles.

The group will be made up of Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Rancid icon Tim Armstrong, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, and former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone, plus surprise guests.

They will play some of the Blitzkrieg Bop hitmakers’ songs for the first time at the event on August 30.

The tribute night will celebrate 50 years since the Ramones released their self-titled debut in 1976.

The record, which helped spark a revolution in punk music, featured tracks like Judy Is A Punk and Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue.

CJ said: “This is gonna be the biggest celebration of the Ramones anyone has seen for a long time!!!”

And American Idiot singer Billie Joe noted that the I Wanna Be Sedated band’s influence can still be felt today.

He added: “The spirit of the Ramones is alive in every backyard punk show, punk club and festival. Generation after generation of cretins and weirdos become Ramones lovers.

“Kids are influenced by the Ramones and they don’t even know it yet. ¡Viva Ramones!”

Rancid star Tim noted that “music was never the same” after the Ramones.

He said: “From the moment I first heard the Ramones, music was never the same. They are my favourite band of all time!

“I can’t wait to play those great and perfect Ramones songs with my friends CJ, Travis and Billie. It’s gonna be wild!”

Blink-182’s Travis described the iconic band as “the blueprint”, adding: “Punk rock wouldn’t be what it is today without them. I’m honoured to celebrate 50 years of one of the greatest bands ever!!!”

As well as the supergroup’s debut, the event – which will be hosted by John Travolta – will include a double feature screening of his new film Propeller One-Way Night Coach, and the 50th anniversary deluxe edition of Carrie.

The actor said: “Two years ago, I had the pleasure of experiencing the Hollywood Forever Johnny Ramone Tribute for the first time.

“It was a blast, and I want to return again for the Ramones tribute!

“With showing something new, my directorial debut, Propeller One-Way Night Coach. And something old, the 50th anniversary of original Carrie. It is going to be a fun night. See you there!”

The event will raise money for David Agus MD Cancer Research at the Ellison Institute.
