Mel B reveals ‘worst Spice Girls moment’ which left her devastated

Mel B says the worst Spice Girls moment was finding out Geri Horner had quit.

The 51-year-old star has recalled the “devastating” moment she learned that her bandmate had left the Wannabe hitmakers – which also featured Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham and Melanie C – and she struggled with not knowing her reasons for leaving the band.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, she said: “[The worst Spice Girls moment was] finding out Geri had left us on May 29, 1998. It was my birthday.

“We’ve all talked about it since, and I understand why, but at the time it was devastating because I just didn’t know why.”

Mel also took the time to reflect on the best moments she had with the iconic girl group, although she struggled to pick just one.

She added: “Either meeting Nelson Mandela, playing Wembley or spending a day with Harry and William. They were young princes and we made them peanut butter and jam sandwiches in Kensington Palace.

“They were such cute kids – I can’t remember whether it was William or Harry who had a crush on Emma, but they were so polite and charming and gorgeous.”

Mel reconnected with Prince William four years ago when she received her MBE, and she joked that Victoria set her up with her dress design.

She teased: “The last time I saw Prince William it was when he was pinning my MBE to my chest in a dress Victoria had made for me, which was just a little bit revealing in exactly the place he pinned the medal to.

“Victoria knew exactly what she was doing when she designed it for me.”

Meanwhile, Victoria previously admitted she was blindsided when Geri left the group in 1998.

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Victoria explained: “She just left. I was on the phone to Geri this morning about something completely different and we even laughed about it.

“She just left and we had no idea until she just didn’t turn up. We can laugh about it now but at the time we were like, ‘OK.'”

Last week, Spice Girls casually celebrated the 30th anniversary of their debut single Wannabe, although they didn’t manage to pull off a tour to mark the milestone.

The official Spice Girls Instagram accounted posted alongside the music video on Wednesday (08.07.26): “30 years of Wannabe!

“Happy birthday to the song that changed our lives forever. Thank you for making it part of your lives for the past three decades.”

Melanie C marked the occasion on Instagram, writing: “30 years of girl power! Happy Birthday Wannabe.

“I love you @emmaleebunton @victoriabeckham @officialmelb @gerihalliwellhorner @biffco and Matt Rowe

“The song that changed our lives forever.”

Emma Bunton posted: “Happy birthday Wannabe, 30 years! Love you all thank you! (sic)”

Mel B simply wrote: “Zigazig ahhhh. Yipppeeee. (sic)”
