Yeah Yeah Yeahs Release New Live Album and Short Film

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have unveiled Hidden in Pieces Live at the Royal Albert Hall, a live album out digitally today. A 22-minute concert film, directed by Barnaby Clay, is also streaming now via the Criterion Channel. That was recorded at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theatre and will screen in a handful of theaters around the world this month. A physical album, out October 23 via Secretly Canadian, will include today’s 13-track live album as well as a handful of bonus recordings from U.S. shows, which will come to streaming the same day.

Karen O said in a press release that the album “was born out of a need to commune with our band and fan family in 2025, after the election.” She went on, “In the past, YYYs haven’t often chosen when to be back at it and out there, it often chooses us. It, being the times.”

The band worked on the live arrangements during a brief spell at Sonic Ranch, Texas, she added. During the performance itself, “We felt the spirits of all legends past swirling around us. Nick [Zinner] remarked that he felt as though his fingers were guided on the guitar neck. The real alchemy happened when we played the hall, it clicked into place. All the shows we performed on this small tour were extraordinarily vulnerable.” She also thanked David Lynch “for his everything,” saying, “His passing came a month before we began this journey and the performance begins with an ode to his legacy.”

Barnaby Clay said, “I wanted to create a film that not only captured the live performance but also felt close to the spirit of what the band was going for with their shows; something delicate and dream-like, like a precious memory, timeless, emotionally charged and shrouded in mystery.”

Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ last studio release was the 2022 album Cool It Down.
