The Cribs announce special homecoming show celebrating 20 years of ‘Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever’ with !Forward, Russia!

The Cribs have announced a special homecoming show that will celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever’, and !Forward, Russia! are confirmed as special guests.

The gig will be held at Tileyard North in Wakefield on Friday August 20, and makes the indie icons the first confirmed headliners for next summer’s Live At Tileyard North series.

The show will celebrate their acclaimed 2007 album ‘Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever’ being released 20 years ago, and is set to see Ryan Jarman and co. play the record in its entirety.

With the slot at Live At Tileyard North, the Jarman brothers are performing at the same site where they rehearsed in the early 2000’s, just a short distance from their childhood home.

They will be joined at the show by Yorkshire art rock heroes ¡Forward, Russia!, who are also clearing a milestone – playing their 2007 debut album ‘Give Me A Wall’ in full too.

“I am so pleased to be able to bring back our Live At Tileyard North Series for 2027, said Toby Womack, promoter at Futuresound Events. “After such a warm reception in 2026, it’s encouraging to know we have Wakefield’s stamp of approval to keep it going for years to come.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to launch our second edition than with The Cribs’ first hometown show in over 10 years, this will be incredibly special!”

Tickets go on sale on Friday (October 23) at 10am BST, and pre-sale tickets will be available from Wednesday (October 21) at the same time. Visit here for tickets and more information.

‘Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever’ features classic tracks ‘Moving Pictures’, ‘I’m a Realist’ and ‘Our Bovine Public’, and was produced by Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos.

It landed at Number Nine on our list of Albums Of The Year in 2007, and scored an 8/10 review from NME when it first dropped – being praised as the “sexiest dirty pop record of the year”.

“They’ve made this record, not for their bank balances, but for the emo kids, disillusioned Libs fans and alt.rock obsessives who’ve held them close to their hearts since day one,” it read. “They’ve delivered the tunes, alright, but they can’t help but fill them with angst, confusion and lashings of amp fuzz. Safe, predictable and packaged for the mainstream? This album is anything but.”

Back in 2022, The Cribs re-released their third record, as well as its two predecessors: 2004 debut ‘The Cribs’ and 2005 follow-up ‘The New Fellas’, and all three re-entered the UK Charts as a result.

“We’ve been so busy playing multiple shows a day and haven’t really had any days off, so we haven’t really had chance to process it yet – but it’s certainly not what we were expecting when we did these reissues,” Ryan Jarman told NME. “The fundamental reason for doing these reissues was because the vinyl had been out of print for such a long time.

“We didn’t expect anything like this, but it’s amazing. We really appreciate it because it means that people still care about the records. That’s not always going to be a given, all this time down the line. It’s been a pretty crazy last couple of days. We’re so psyched.”
