A$AP Rocky plans to instil a dedicated work ethic in his children as they could be “considered” by the public as “nepo babies”.
In an interview for VIBE magazine published on Tuesday, the rapper – real name Rakim Mayers – opened up about his family life with longtime partner, Rihanna.
The couple shares sons RZA, four, and Riot, two, and daughter Rocki, eight months.
Reflecting on parenthood, Rocky noted that being a dad is everything to him.
“Being emotionally present, emotionally available, receptive, still endearing, but not only that, loving,” he smiled. “That’s easy. That’s me all day. That’s just me.”
However, Rocky emphasised that he plans to teach his kids to be aware of their privilege.
“I want to make sure that I teach my boys discipline and keep them grounded, keep them humble as much as possible. Because they could be considered nepo babies,” the 37-year-old continued, using the term that typically refers to the children of celebrities who have succeeded in pursuing Hollywood careers. “I got to make sure they chill with their cousins, the rough cousins that’s going keep them on their toes.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Rocky shared that he rarely records music at home anymore because he doesn’t want his little ones to be around his “smoking sessions”.
Instead, he will set up at a hotel or rent a studio space.
“Any kind of space, like 500 square feet or more,” he added.
Rocky released his fourth studio album, Don’t Be Dumb, in January.
He just kicked off a headlining concert tour in support of the project, with the next gig to take place in Philadelphia on Thursday.
