Ariana Grande jokes she “would need an extra brain” to release new music

Ariana Grande has joked that she would “need an extra brain” to release new music.

The musician’s last musical output was her March 2024 album ‘Eternal Sunshine’, an expanded deluxe version of which she shared in 2025, complete with six new tracks. She’s now shared that she isn’t interested in making new music at the moment, joking that she’d require “an extra brain and four more arms” to start working on an album.

Her comments came up following an interview with Variety, with the outlet reporting that there was “definitely not” new music coming “before May”. She then added a message to fans: “I love them so much, but sometimes I want to ask, ‘Do you think there’s another version of me out there who had time to write an album?’ Not yet – but soon enough.”

However, in a follow-up comment shared to Instagram, Grande pushed back on that framing. “Welp, I never said ‘but soon enough’ or mentioned any months! lol my goooooodness,” she wrote. “All i said was ‘no’ and ‘do they think there’s a clone of me out there somewhere’! there must’ve been a Zoom glitch or something.”

Her comments led fans to speculate that she may be sharing new music before her upcoming ‘Eternal Sunshine’ tour. In a separate comment on that post, she wrote, “Ma’am i would need an extra brain and four more arms.”

In late August, Grande announced her first string of live shows since 2019, set to take place this summer. The ‘Eternal Sunshine’ run will see her perform across the US between June and August, followed by a whopping 10-show residency at The O2 in London between August and September – you can find any remaining tickets here.

After the announcement of the tour, Grande said it would likely be her “last hurrah”.

She’s rarely played live since she completed her huge 100-show tour in 2019, only making a handful of appearances at non-profit events and award shows. She did reassure fans earlier this year, however, that she wasn’t “abandoning” music.

Back in November, she spoke of her “healed” relationship with music. “Until quite recently, it was really hard for me to navigate and I think it stripped a lot of joy out of this for me. And by the way, I have a different team now,” she said, hinting at her 2023 split from longtime manager Scooter Braun and now being able to balance her music and acting career without the pressure of the pop industry machine behind her. “Said with love, but that was a piece.”

In a four-star review of 2024’s ‘Eternal Sunshine’, Nick Levine wrote for NME: “It’s the most sophisticated project yet from a preternaturally talented vocalist who keeps getting better. Whatever you take away from it, ‘Eternal Sunshine’ definitely isn’t an album you’ll want to wipe from memory.”
