Billie Eilish has hit back at critics after she came under fire for declaring that “eating meat is wrong”.
The longtime animal rights activist, who has been a vegan since she was 12, made the controversial statement during a video interview for ELLE magazine last week when she was asked, “What’s one hill you’d die on?”
The 24-year-old replied, “Ya’ll ain’t gonna like me for this one… Eating meat is inherently wrong. Two things cannot coincide: ‘I love all animals so much and I eat meat.’ Sorry – you could eat meat, go for it, you could love animals, but you can’t do both.”
Billie’s comments sparked swift backlash and debate online, and the Bad Guy singer hit back at her critics on Thursday by doubling down on her opinion.
She shared graphic clips of animals in slaughterhouses on her Instagram Stories and wrote, “So stay f**king mad at ME,” and “I really don’t give a goddamn f**k” across the posts.
The Birds of a Feather hitmaker then issued a defiant statement, calling on meat-eaters to watch some documentaries to inform themselves.
“Go watch a documentary or two and some footage of what is done to the animals u claim to love and what it does to the planet u pretend to love as well,” she wrote. “If that footage was hard for u to watch i encourage u to pls take a look at urself. like i am so tired of standing up for/having empathy for living beings being controversial. pls continue to live in a constant state of cognitive dissonance and denial and try to convince urself that ur not living a lie (sic).”
Billie is currently promoting her concert movie, Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), which is in cinemas now.
