Boy George sets sights on writing future British Eurovision entry

Pop icon Boy George has officially thrown his hat into the ring to craft a future Eurovision Song Contest entry for the United Kingdom. Speaking live on Radio X’s The Chris Moyles Show, the Culture Club frontman reflected on his recent experience representing San Marino in the global competition and expressed a strong desire to masterminded the British track, stating, “Well, I’d like to write the British entry. That would be something I would like to do. That’s something I would like to do, so I’m putting it out in there.”

Reflecting on his time in the international musical spotlight, host Chris Moyles asked the singer, “Did you enjoy the circus that was Eurovision?” Boy George enthusiastically responded, “I absolutely did, you know. I wanted to go, and it was really mad. I mean, I would have liked to have got through to the final to see whether we got any of the nul points, or whatever. Because that’s what you go for! I want to find out – would we have got any points?”

However, the singer did not shy away from critiquing the current mechanics of the tournament, offering up what he deemed “a little bit controversial” feedback regarding the structural advantages given to the contest’s major financial contributors. “If five countries can get into the show without any process, how’s that a competition? Just saying!” he noted, later emphasizing, “I think it’s weird that it’s not an even playing field, you know?”

When Moyles pointed out the immense scale of the declaration, saying, “I think that’s massive that you say, ‘I’ll do it, I’ll do the UK entry,’” Boy George questioned why the nation frequently struggles to secure points on the grand stage. “Because I think, also, I don’t know why we’re so unpopular,” the singer mused. Defending the country’s rich musical heritage, he concluded, “Come on, we’ve given the world such great music! We’re known for our great music!”
