Charli XCX is obsessed in her latest song drop, and now, so are we.
In a black-and-white video accompanying the arrival of “I Keep on Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night,” Charli grooves up and down hallways and staircases, before arriving in a dance studio where she prowls, poses, and drops some sultry choreography. As she locks eyes with the camera throughout, the clip mirrors the melodic, sapphic bop’s lyrics of an inescapable fixation that lingers 24/7.
“Maybe we can become each other?” she sings in the opening line. Adding: “I wonder if I just want you as my best friend, or maybe if I’m a really late bloomer.” Later, she wonders “if I maybe could be gay/But come on, look at me, I’m probably not” and “if you were actually gay/Or if that’s somеthing you just say for your career.” The chorus makes plain the song’s sentiments: “I keep thinking ’bout you every single day/I keep thinking ’bout you every single night.”
In a caption to the video she shared on Instagram on Saturday, she writes that the song is the B-side to “Rock Music,” which arrived on Thursday at midnight. She continues, “i went to Kyoto for six weeks to shoot a film. while we were there, i made this video with aidan. only available on vinyl & here on b.sides. so rip the audio if you want it xx.”
On the film front, Charli has been working on a bevy of them, having recently starred in Pete Oh’s Erupjca and the Brat mockumentary The Moment. She’s also slated for Julia Jackman’s 100 Nights of Hero, the Gregg Araki-directed I Want Your Sex, Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, and a yet untitled Takashi Miike movie.
Her two new song drops follow the February release of Wuthering Heights, the companion album she penned for Emerald Fennell’s film. Charli also contributed to the soundtrack for David Lowery’s Mother Mary, and last month, “Party 4 U” from How I’m Feeling Now was released as a seven-inch for Record Store Day.
