Cruz Beckham souvenir tickets claim Cardiff is in England

Cruz Beckham souvenir tickets claim Cardiff is in England

A souvenir ticket from Cruz Beckham‘s recent show in Cardiff incorrectly claims that the city is in England.

The singer-songwriter – son of David and Victoria Beckham – performed at the Clwb Ifor Bach venue in the Welsh capital last Friday (February 27), as part of his current debut UK and European headline tour.

Beckham is performing onstage alongside his band The Breakers, featuring Dan Ewins, Telmo Seixas and Dario Scotti, who were billed on the souvenir ticket. The vintage-looking pass is described as a “collector’s item” to commemorate the ‘For Your Love’ tour.

However, a glaring error was printed on the ticket underneath the band’s name. “Live At Clwb Ifor Bach. Cardiff, England | UK,” it read.

Speaking to BBC News, technology and graphic design teacher Jason Erickson – who was in the audience in Cardiff – said that the misprint was perhaps “one of those oversights”. He added: “But you would expect them to pick something like that [up]… being the only Welsh gig.

“You kind of think, let’s make sure we get that on the money but, you know, I’m a proud Welshman but it hasn’t really upset me.”

Clwb Ifor Bach, founded in 1983, is known for showcasing Welsh culture. The 380–capacity independent venue also hosted the likes of The Killers, Coldplay, The Strokes, Wolf Alice and more early on in their careers.

A description on its official website says that the establishment “plays a key role in hosting all kinds of new music from Wales and beyond, and our commitment to supporting the growth of the Welsh language continues across our work”.

It reads: “Clwb Ifor Bach was founded forty years ago as a members’ club for Welsh language speakers in Cardiff. It soon became a hub for local musicians who would later go on to form Catatonia, Super Furry Animals and other Welsh acts who broke through in the mid nighties, establishing the venue on the UK touring circuit.”

Clwb Ifor Bach is currently undergoing redevelopment to expand its capacity to 1,000, per Mixmag.

It took part in Independent Venue Week 2023. At the time, owner and promoter Guto Brychan told NME: “At the heart of it, a grassroots venue is an asset for that community and we want as many local people as possible to think of it as an opportunity to perform there or get involved.

“It’s not just about performers – people become sound engineers or reps or agents. People start their music industry journey here and that engagement resets the course of their life.”

Cruz Beckham’s latest single, ‘For Your Love’, arrived last month, following on from the songs ‘Optics’ and ‘Lick The Toad’.

His current UK and European tour is due to resume in Manchester tomorrow (Wednesday March 4) ahead of further shows in Southampton, Brighton, Amsterdam, Berlin and London. Find any remaining tickets here.

In a statement about the run of gigs, Beckham said: “I’m so excited to get out on the road, I’ve always been inspired by bands who do it the right way, so I wanna get out there and play loads of small gigs. I cannot wait to meet the fans and for them to hear the tracks, I can’t believe people have actually spent their hard-earned money to come and see me and my band, so we’re gonna put on a show!

“I’m so buzzing to have our own banner for The Breakers, we’ve only been a support band so far so this time we get our own banner!!”
