Dave Grohl Confirms New Foo Fighters Album Is ‘Finished’

Dave Grohl revealed that the Foo Fighters have wrapped work on their forthcoming new album. During a concert in Tasmania, Australia, over the weekend, Grohl told the crowd that no only is new music coming, but that the band would return to Australia sooner than later.

“This won’t be the last time you see us,” Grohl said. “We’ll be back here sooner than you think. And it’s before my next birthday.”

He added, “And we might have a whole new record of fucking songs that we just finished the other day.”

For the record, Grohl’s birthday is on Jan. 14, which means Foo Fighters would hit the road globally again this year. The band has already announced a North American summer stadium tour, which kicks off Aug. 4 at Rogers Stadium in Toronto and concludes Sept. 26 in Las Vegas.

Foo Fighters’ last album, But Here We Are, arrived in 2023. It was their first LP since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. Grohl handled the drum duties himself on the album, and the band hired Josh Freese for the tour. They parted ways with him in May. When they announced their 2026 tour dates, the Foos also shared a new single entitled “Asking For a Friend.”

“[It’s] a song for those who have waited patiently in the cold, relying on hope and faith for their horizon to appear,” Grohl wrote. “Searching for ‘proof’ when hanging by a wish until the sun shines again. One of many songs to come…”

The band’s performance at UTAS Stadium in Launceston, Tasmania, on Saturday night marked their first show in Tasmania in more than a decade. It was also the first time the Foo Fighters played on the island since Hawkins’ death. When the show was announced, Grohl explained it was a one-off gig in Australia.

“We have a very special relationship with Tasmania — as we do with all of Australia,” Grohl said. “To come down and have a special night is amazing… even though we’re literally flying down for 48 hours.”

During the show, Grohl shared the story behind Foo Fighters’ 2007 song “Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners” and brought out one of the real-life miners, Brant Webb. Webb famously requested an iPod loaded with Foo Fighters songs while he was trapped underground.

Last night at the @foofighters‘ one-off Australian show in Tasmania, Dave Grohl told the story behind the song ‘Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners’ and brought out Brant Webb, the famous miner, on stage for an emotional moment.
