Foo Fighters Set for One-Off Tasmania Return With Launceston Stadium Gig

Foo Fighters are set to return to Tasmania this weekend for a one-off sold-out stadium show in Launceston, marking the band’s first performance in the Apple Isle in more than a decade and their first-ever concert in the northern Tasmanian city.

The American rock group will play UTAS Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 24, with Frontier Touring and the band sharing a detailed “Know Before You Go” guide on Thursday (Jan. 22) outlining key information for ticketholders ahead of the sold-out event.

“TASMANIA!!! KNOW BEFORE YOU GO,” the band wrote while resharing the promoter’s post on social media. “SEE YOU SOON…”

The Launceston date is Foo Fighters’ only Australian show scheduled for 2026 so far and comes after tickets sold out rapidly during the general on-sale, with fans travelling from across the country to secure entry. No additional dates have been announced.

The concert will be all-ages, with all attendees requiring a valid ticket regardless of age. Entry will be digital-only, with tickets accessible via mobile devices. Doors at UTAS Stadium are set to open at 5 p.m., with the show scheduled to begin at 6:20 p.m. Foo Fighters will be joined on the night by special guests Full Flower Moon Band and Spooky Eyes.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, with organisers advising that UTAS Stadium does not offer cloakroom facilities. Essential items recommended for the day include a fully charged phone, a power bank, sunscreen, hats, ID, cards and earplugs. Patrons may also bring a clear, empty plastic bottle, though bottles will not be permitted in general admission areas.

Bag restrictions will be enforced, with bags larger than A4 size not allowed inside the venue. Prohibited items include professional cameras and video equipment, chairs, cushions, umbrellas, flags or banners with handles, alcohol, cans, glassware and crockery.

UTAS Stadium will operate as a fully cashless venue, including for merchandise, food and beverage purchases. Early merchandise sales will take place outside Gate 11 on Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., while on show day merchandise will be available at Gate 11, Gate 15 and near Gate 2.

Traffic and transport changes are also expected, with sections of Invermay Road closed due to anticipated congestion.

Fans are encouraged to use nearby taxi ranks, park in Launceston’s CBD and walk to the stadium, or take advantage of designated bus pick-up and drop-off zones for interstate and regional travellers.

The Launceston performance marks Foo Fighters’ 14th visit to Australia. Their most recent tour took place in November and December 2023, following earlier Australian runs in 2022 and 2018. In March 2022, the band made headlines by performing a one-off show at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium, becoming the first international act to play an Australian stadium after COVID-19 border restrictions were lifted.

The band last performed in Tasmania in 2015, making Saturday’s concert their first appearance in the state in more than ten years and a rare opportunity for fans to catch the group outside of a major capital-city tour.
