Geese Bassist Dominic DiGesu Throws First Pitch at New York Mets Game

Geese Bassist Dominic DiGesu Throws First Pitch at New York Mets Game

DiGesu, who often displays his Mets fandom onstage and in photo shoots, took the mound with his bandmates before a Sunday game

Geese bassist and avowed Mets fan Dominic DiGesu took the mound at Citi Field on Sunday afternoon to throw the ceremonial first pitch before New York’s game against the Colorado Rockies.

Joined by bandmates Cameron Winter, Max Bassin, and Emily Green — all of them in custom Mets jerseys with their last names and the numbers 4 or 20 — DiGesu made an accurate throw that suggests he could have a decent career ahead of him at the high-A level if being the bassist in one of the best and coolest rock bands in years doesn’t pan out.

“We had a surprise visit from Mr. Met at our most recent New York show and he made it clear that he was a fan, and that if we wanted to work together in the future on something that [the team] was down to do something,” DiGesu told WNYC this week. “I immediately was like, ‘Oh, my God!’ It’s always been an idea of mine to have Geese throw out the first pitch. I’ve wanted to do that my whole life, ever since I was a kid.”

Like the rest of his bandmates in the Brooklyn-based band, DiGesu is a big Mets fan, often wearing the team’s blue-and-orange attire in photo shoots (including one for Rolling Stone last year) and onstage. In a 2025 interview with Interview Magazine, the members of Geese attended a Mets game, and DiGesu let his fandom fly.

If the Mets could win a World Series for the first time since 1986, he said, “It would mean a lot to me. I’ve never been alive to witness such a phenomenon.” When asked if he would rather see that baseball outcome or great reviews for Geese’s then-new album Getting Killed, DiGesu answered, “The Mets winning easily. Pitchfork could give Geese 1’s for the rest of our career if the Mets win the World Series this year.” (Alas, Getting Killed received excellent reviews, and the Mets missed the playoffs.)

With Sunday’s first pitch, DiGesu joined fellow Mets-loving musicians like the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas and John Mayer in tossing the ceremonial pitch.

The Mets are the latest baseball team to embrace their local up-and-coming rock band: Earlier this week, the Baltimore Orioles announced plans to commemorate Turnstile on July 10, complete with special O’s jerseys.
