Jay-Z explains being “heartbroken” and feeling “uncontrollable rage” over 2024 rape accusations

Jay-Z explains being “heartbroken” and feeling “uncontrollable rage” over 2024 rape accusations

Jay-Z has looked back at the now-dropped rape accusations he faced in 2024, and said it left him both “heartbroken” and feeling “uncontrollable rage”.

The suit was first filed back in December 2024 by Jane Doe, who alleged she was 13-years-old when she was sexually assaulted by Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs at a VMA after-party in the year 2000.

Combs –who was arrested and charged with crimes including sexual trafficking and racketeering in 2024 – denied all allegations raised against him including that of Doe. Jay-Z also denied the “heinous” accusation against him, and hit out at his accuser’s lawyer for “getting basic facts wrong”.

The latter then Carter filed a memo with additional arguments to dismiss the suit, having previously filed a motion to dismiss it, and it was later confirmed that the anonymous accuser withdrew her complaint with prejudice, meaning she could not file it again.

When the case was dropped, the ‘Empire State Of Mind’ artist called the news a “victory” and said that the “trauma” that he and his family endured as a result “can never be dismissed”.

Now, he has spoken to GQ about the toll the accusations took on him. “It was hard. Really hard,” he shared, adding that he was “heartbroken” by the allegations.

Going on to explain how it “took a lot out of him”, he continued that he hadn’t been “that angry in a long time” and added that it felt “uncontrollable”.

“You had to be super sure before you put those kind of things on a person. Especially a person like me,” he added, going on to discuss living by personal rules.

He also shared that he was certain that the case would reach that same outcome, both because the claims were “not true” and “at the end of the day, still reigns supreme.”

That same interview also saw Jay-Z weigh in on the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, saying he doesn’t know if “battling needs to be a part of the culture anymore”.

The duel dominated headlines in 2024 and 2025, spinning out from a back-and-forth trade of diss tracks to become a heated defamation lawsuit and a complex feud that impacted their personal lives.

“We love the excitement and I love the sparring, but in this day and age there’s so much negative stuff that comes with it that you almost wish it didn’t happen,” he said. “Now, people that like Kendrick hate Drake, no matter what he makes. It’s like an attack on his character. I don’t know if I love that.”

As for the now-withdrawn accusations of rape from Jane Doe against Jay-Z and Diddy, all accusations against Jay-Z have been dropped.

Last year, Diddy was sentenced to four years and two months in prison following his conviction on federal prostitution-related charges. A judge said a “substantial sentence” was required to “send a message to abusers and victims alike that abuse against women is met with real accountability”.

Prior to that, back in July, 12 New Yorkers acquitted Combs of sex trafficking and racketeering charges, which carried a potential life sentence. They did, however, find him guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution involving his two ex-girlfriends, Cassandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura and “Jane”.
