Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s John Fogerty has said he wants Timothée Chalamet to play him in his upcoming biopic.

While attending the 55th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame on Thursday (June 11), Fogerty spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that a biopic charting his life was in the works, with the script currently being written.

“I’m really excited about it. That’s such an honour, to get a movie made about you,” he said. “I’m thrilled and happy that this is finally going to come out. I think they’re working on it. That’s about all I can say.”

When asked who he’d want to play him in a film about him, Fogerty quipped, “I used to joke, ‘Oh, Brad Pitt!’. The same night, the ‘Centerfield’ singer later spoke to Us Weekly about his dream casting, and said he’d pick: “Whoever that Bob Dylan guy was. That would be great.”

It was Marty Supreme actor Chalamet who took on the role of the iconic singer-songwriter for the critically acclaimed biopic A Complete Unknown. Earning a BAFTA nod and eight Oscar nominations, the film saw Chalamet perform some of Dylan’s biggest hits himself, rather than mime them.

Speaking about the importance of committing himself to the character, Chalamet told NME in January that he was willing to work as long as possible to get the character and musical performances right in the biopic.

“I had the time to put the 10,000 hours in, which in a three-month, four-month period you really can’t… There wasn’t a deadline on it,” he said. “I wasn’t learning for anyone else. I was learning for myself.”

His turn as Dylan earned a four-star review from NME, with Alex Flood writing: “The most important (and often trickiest) job of any music movie is to get the music right. And this nails that. If you’re a Bob newbie, you’ll leave the cinema ready to dive into his back catalogue.

“If you’re already a fan, the next few weeks will be spent making playlists of lesser-known B-sides or reading the lore around a scene you weren’t familiar with. And that’s why it was a good idea to make this film – a mad idea, but a good one.”

As for Fogerty’s biopic, he kept details largely under wraps, but told The Hollywood Reporter he’d be content with whoever got cast.

“Years ago, probably in the middle of all the dark times, I would tell people, ‘Someday they’re going to make a movie about me, but I’ll be too old to play myself,’” he said. “It’s kind of like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz singing about someday.”

“Whoever they find that makes it work, I’ll be happy with,” he continued.
