Kelsey Lu is back with their long-awaited follow-up to 2019’s Blood. So Help Me God, their debut for Dirty Hit, arrives June 12. Co-produced by Lu with Jack Antonoff and Yves Rothman, the album features Kim Gordon, Sampha, Kamasi Washington, and Lady Jess. Leading the LP is “Running to Pain,” a newly theatrical spin on the cellist/composer/singer’s hybridist chamber-pop, complete with a Savanah Leaf-directed video starring Titane actor Garance Marillier. Check that out below, along with the album art and tracklist.
Lu said in a press release, “So Help Me God was built slowly and intentionally across seven years of transformation. Sonically and emotionally it holds so many different worlds at once—devotion and desire, collapse and becoming—trying to make sense of what it means to break, to believe, to long for something without seeing it clearly, and to be reborn again and again and again.”
Despite not releasing an album since Blood, Lu has kept busy, with output including the EP Blood Transfusion, collaborations with Jamie xx, Yves Tumor and Boys Noize, and scores for Netflix’s Daughters and A24’s Earth Mama. Lu will perform new material at Blue Note Jazz Clubs in New York and Los Angeles next month.
