Nearly one year after his mental health episode went viral, Lil Nas X is ready to get back to making music.
On Wednesday, the two-time Grammy winner, real name Montero Hill, announced that he has “new music on the way” following a stint in rehab and a bipolar diagnosis.
“I’m doing much better. I’m doing better, I’m feeling better, I’m creating freely, and there’s less fear in my heart, and I’m just smelling the roses, man,” he updated his fans in a video on Instagram.
“I wanted to let you guys know that there is new music on the way, and I’m not getting completely into that just yet, but I’m excited to do that.”
The Old Town Road rapper was arrested in August 2025 for attacking police officers while wandering through the streets of Los Angeles wearing only his underwear and cowboy boots.
“I’ve been in rehab for a few months, and since then, I’ve been back at home, whether it’s in Atlanta with my family or Los Angeles with myself and friends and whatnot,” he explained.
“When I got my bipolar disorder diagnosis, I feel like I had known for the past few years, but I didn’t wanna admit to it because I didn’t wanna have to take medication and have people think different of me. I mean, I’m already Black and gay. Like, damn God… I’m living life on extreme hard mode.”
In April, Lil Nas X had his felony assault charges dropped when a judge ordered him to enter a mental health diversion programme, following his bipolar diagnosis.
