Mick Jagger says he’s “ready to go” on tour with The Rolling Stones and “hopefully we’ll do shows next year”

Mick Jagger has opened up about the possibility of a new Rolling Stones tour being announced, and said that he hopes to do some “shows next year”.

The comments come as the rock icons are gearing up to release their 25th studio album, ‘Foreign Tongues’, on July 10 via Polydor/Universal Music.

Set to mark the follow-up to 2024’s ‘Hackney Diamonds’, the full tracklist for the record was revealed last month – with the song titles appearing on streaming devices, but in actual foreign tongues – it was announced after the band put a dampener on hopes of a tour.

Mick Jagger and co. embarked on their last tour dates with their ‘Hackney Diamonds’ tour in the US in 2024. That stint sold nearly a million tickets across 20 dates, and generated an estimated $235million (£185.1million) – making it to Number Six on the highest-grossing music world tours of that year.

The following year, they announced that they had scrapped plans for a UK and European stadium tour in 2026 because Keith Richards was unable to “commit” to it.

Since then, however, various members have said that there is still hope of more shows being announced. Jagger expressed recently that he “can’t wait” to get back out on the road with the group, and Richards himself even hinted that they could announce some dates for 2027.

Now, in a new interview on TODAY‘s Sunday Sitdown, Jagger opened up about the new album and expressed his enthusiasm once more to hit the road.

“I’d love to. I really want to… and I’m ready to go,” he replied when asked if the band were planning on announcing more tour dates.

He also suggested that fans won’t have long to wait to see them live, and while a tour may not be planned for 2026, they are talking about plans for 2027.

“I don’t think we’re gonna do shows this year, but hopefully we’ll do shows next year,” he said.

As for the sound of the new record, the singer said he “hopes” people see it as a “classic Stones album”, but is certain it has “got something for everyone” across the 14 tracks.

The upcoming record will feature guest appearances from Paul McCartney, Robert Smith, Steve Winwood and the band’s late drummer Charlie Watts, and will include the previously released singles ‘Rough And Twisted’ and ‘‘In The Stars’, as well as a cover of the Amy Winehouse classic ‘You Know I’m No Good’.

Ahead of the release, the Stones have also teamed up with Marvel to launch a special vinyl collector series for the record – with new limited edition artwork featuring Spider-Man, The Hulk, Captain America and more – and also revealed how they ended up working with The Cure’s Robert Smith.

As for Mick Jagger, the frontman surprised fans in Oxford recently by playing an impromptu gig with students at a local pub.
