Miley Cyrus says she went to the 2025 Oscars to pitch her songwriting for films

Miley Cyrus has revealed that she went to the 2025 Oscars to pitch herself as a songwriter for film.

The pop star has recently become involved in some high-profile film soundtracks. Earlier this month, she shared ‘Dream As One‘, a song for Avatar: Fire And Ash – the latest instalment of James Cameron’s sci-fi franchise.

Ahead of that, last year she wrote the song ‘Beautiful That Way’ for the Pamela Anderson-starring The Last Showgirl.

Now, Cyrus has revealed that she was selected to write the tracks after she simply put herself out there.

Speaking to People, she said that she approached Cameron about the collaboration at the 2024 D23 Expo, where they were both honoured as Disney Legends. “I kind of throw it out there as I always do,” she said.

“I already knew the answer to, ‘So what have you been up to?’ I know he’s been up to Avatar for a very long time.” She recalled saying: “Just lemme know if you ever need any music,” adding, “It just kind of organically happened. James actually calls us ‘Legends in law.’”

She then explained that the origin of ‘Beautiful That Way’ was similar. “I did the same thing to Jamie Lee Curtis,” she said. “That’s how I ended up doing Last Showgirl and now being a part of Avatar.”

She added: “Literally, that’s why I went to the Oscars this year. Everybody that came up and introduced themselves, I said, ‘Well, if you need any music, I’m around.’”

Cyrus also said she has pitched the creators of Baby Reindeer, even though a second season has not been confirmed. “I don’t know what I would write for Baby Reindeer season two, but I threw that out there,” she shared.

‘Dream As One’ saw her join forces with Andrew Wyatt, Mark Ronson and Simon Franglen. The track features in the end credits for the third Avatar movie, and was partly inspired by the devastating fires that tore across Los Angeles at the start of the year.

Cyrus recently released her ninth studio album ‘Something Beautiful‘ last May – a record which NME hailed in a four-star review.

“‘Something Beautiful’ is sprawling and apparently unperturbed by contemporary chart trends,” we wrote. “While ‘Something Beautiful’ probably isn’t Cyrus’s most hit-packed album, it does feel like a fully realised artistic statement. This post-genre pop star has pulled off another pretty big swing.”

The album included the track ‘Secrets‘, a collaboration with Fleetwood Mac‘s Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham. Cyrus went on to dedicate the track to her father Billy Ray Cyrus, saying: “This song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved. In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same”.

In other news, Cyrus has said she still has no “desire” to tour, and has proclaimed she was “the first person to maybe ever be cancelled”.
