My Chemical Romance wipe Twitter/X account before revealing ‘The Black Parade’ tour so far has been a prequel

My Chemical Romance have wiped their Twitter/X account and revealed that their ongoing ‘The Black Parade’ tour is a prequel.

Gerard Way and co. announced their extensive round-the-world trek back in September. Set to celebrate their classic 2006 album, it includes dates across the UK, Europe, North America, South America and Southeast Asia. It follows a similar stint in 2025, coined the ‘Long Live The Black Parade Tour‘.

The band wrapped up the Latin American leg last night (February 14) with the second of two back-to-back shows at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City. Ahead of the gig, they cleared all the posts from their X account, leading to fan speculation that an announcement may be on the way.

It’s also been noted that the location of the gig may have some significance, given that Mexico City was the final tour stop after the album’s release in 2006, per Loudwire. That show was filmed and released as the concert film The Black Parade is Dead!, at the time suggesting an end to an era when they would perform in character as ‘The Black Parade’.

The band have revived these characters for this tour, and used last night’s show to confirm the fan theory that this leg was a prequel to a wider story.

The shows see them perform the 2006 album in full, alongside characters that interact with the band and further a storyline each night of the tour, such as ‘The Dictator’, who was featured in the 2025 trek.

One such character is the opera singer who joins the band during each night’s performance of ‘Mama’. During last night’s show in Mexico, it was revealed that the singer was a nurse in the MOAT – an oppressive government entity – where the band’s aforementioned alter egos, The Black Parade, are being held captive, per Loudwire.

The nurse returned later in the set for ‘The End’, where she led frontman Gerard Way to another character, who was holding a box that contained the jacket he wore during the 2025 tour.

Later, Way explained that production designer Rob Sinclair, who also worked with the band on their 2025 tour, came up with the idea to operate the tour as a prequel, as they were logistically unable to put on a show of the same scale as the 2025 tour.

MCR tour is a prequel theory confirmed? With Gerard putting on the jacket from the 2025 shows

Their tour arrives in the UK with a show at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium on June 30, before a date in Glasgow and trio of huge shows at London’s Wembley Stadium on July 8, 10 and 11. From there, they will head around Europe and then to the US in August. See all the dates and ticket information here.

They have also announced the huge list of support acts for the tour, which includes the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen, Interpol, Joan Jett, Skunk Anansie, Sunny Day Real Estate and Mogwai.

My Chemical Romance’s recent concerts have seen them play ‘The Black Parade’ in its entirety, along with rarities from that era and some hits. At a show in LA over the summer, MCR debuted an unreleased track titled ‘War Beneath The Rain’.

They also performed a surprise cover of The Smashing Pumpkins’ 1995 track ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’ in San Francisco. Later on the tour, MCR paid tribute to their late former bandmate Bob Bryar in his hometown of Chicago.

Meanwhile, there is ongoing speculation among fans that the group will be releasing new music in the near future. Despite these persistent rumours, MCR have yet to follow up on their fourth album ‘Danger Days’ (2010).

In 2022, the band shared their first new single in eight years, ‘The Foundations Of Decay’. Earlier this year, they released a 21st anniversary deluxe reissue of their classic second album, 2004’s ‘Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge’.

In other news, in late January, the band posted a cryptic teaser on social media, sharing a flickering image of the word ”PHANTOM” with a caption that read: “A GAME YOU WILL PLAY”. It was also posted to guitarist Frank Iero’s page.
