Peter Hook in talks for Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame performance, says Oasis “could be the intermediaries” for a New Order reunion

Peter Hook is in talks for a Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame performance and says Oasis “could be the intermediaries” for a New Order reunion.

It comes after Joy Division and New Order were recently inducted into the Rock Hall as a single act for a ceremony in Los Angeles in November, following previous nominations in 2023, 2025 and 2026.

A record-breaking six British acts have been announced for this year’s edition, also including Oasis, Billy Idol and Sade. They appear in the ‘Performer’ category alongside Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan and more.

Hook played bass with Joy Division until they became New Order when Ian Curtis took his own life in 1980, before parting ways with the band in 2007.

Speaking in a new interview with Billboard he confirmed that he is “speaking with” ceremony producers about performing at the event.

But since the band carried on without him in 2011, he said it was unlikely he will be reuniting with the rest of New Order.

Hook said: “What they did in 2011 was, frankly, disgusting, and I can’t forgive it … so I won’t be borrowing their ball, shall we say, for any kind of game.”

He continued: “I still do think it’s a travesty they use the New Order name when they are not New Order. They haven’t said they’re going; I have no idea, to be honest. I am gonna go, definitely. I’m looking forward to it,” before adding: ““It’s a dreadful shame, it really is – especially when you get to our age, when you realise that road (ahead) is looking a lot bloody shorter than that road (behind), and you should show it respect. We’ve just been acting like petulant, spoiled children which, sadly, has diminished the way that people look at you, I think”.

Despite his comments, in a separate interview with Rolling Stone he said Oasis could potentially help him to form a truce with New Order.

He said: “If Bernard [Sumner] pops his head around and goes, ‘Hey Hooky, sorry about that eight-year legal battle that cost you six years’ wages. I’m really sorry about it. We should maybe have just had a chat about it.’ So you never know, dear. Life is full of surprises. I’m sure that could be a lovely one. Let’s face it, you couldn’t have better mentors than Liam and Noel.”

Hook added: “Maybe Liam and Noel could be the intermediaries that you’re looking for. They might be like, ‘OK you two. Let’s shake hands and get up there and play ‘Transmission’, ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’, and ‘Blue Monday.’”

Speaking previously in an interview with NME when asked if he’d gladly attend the Hall Of Fame ceremony with New Order, he joked: “Well, they offered to put a boxing ring in for us. I’m looking forward to it, to be honest.”

But he went to on to say it’s unlikely he would team up with his old band because there is still too much bad blood.

He added: “I think it’s because they don’t even want to have to consider that they might have to meet or get together. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame have had a chequered history of get-togethers on stage. What do they say? No publicity is bad publicity? I’m very much of that mindset. I suspect that’s why the others aren’t pushing it.”

Meanwhile, his former bandmates expressed their delight upon hearing they had been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

They wrote: “Thank you to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. From our beginnings as Joy Division to the evolving journey of New Order, this accolade reflects the resilience across nearly five decades that has defined our path alongside our fans, our collaborators and those sadly no longer with us.

“Also to everyone who has listened, supported and continued to carry our music forward. Not bad for a couple of bands that were never entirely sure what they were doing.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2026 induction ceremony is set to take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday November 14. A recording will then air in December on ABC and Disney+.

Last year’s new inductees were The White Stripes, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, Soundgarden, Bad Company, Chubby Checker and Joe Cocker, while Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon were inducted under the ‘Musical Influence’ category.
