Placebo share ‘Re:Created Version’ of classic ‘Lady Of The Flowers’

Placebo share ‘Re:Created Version’ of classic ‘Lady Of The Flowers’

Placebo have shared a new ‘Re:Created’ version of their song ‘Lady Of The Flowers’, check it out below.

The release comes as the band unveiled details of ‘RE:CREATED’, a new reworking of their 1996 debut album, last month and said that it will look back on the huge impact that their music had when it first dropped three decades ago.

They confirmed news of the record alongside plans for a new UK and European tour, which will see them exclusively perform tracks from their first two albums. The new record is set for release on June 19 via Elevator Lady Ltd through AWAL, and has already been previewed by the new, heavier re-worked version of ‘Bruise Pristine’.

Now, Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal have dropped a second taster of the release – sharing a reworked version of ‘The Lady Of The Flowers’.

The song has been made by both returning to the original tapes and using new instrumentals to pull the song into new territory. New production adds more layers throughout, and the production is noticeably heavier than the 1996 original.

Molko’s voice has also more prominent this time around, with his vocals sitting higher than before and helping the track feel even more full and expansive. Check it out below.

The album will see all 10 songs from the original tracklist reworked, as well as the two bonus tracks. Each has been revisited with the hopes of retaining the raw spirit that first defined them, but introducing aspects that show how the band have evolved over 30 years.

“We think of this record as a director’s cut. We haven’t recreated it from scratch. We went back to the original master tapes and brought 30 years of playing these songs live back into the record,” Placebo said.

“When we made the first album, we didn’t yet have the experience or the studio knowledge to fully translate what was in our heads,” they added, sharing that the “project was about finally finishing the record, dragging it into the 21st century sonically, while preserving the integrity and the spirit of the original”.

Their anniversary tour will kick off in September, and includes slots in Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and more, before the UK dates commence at the end of November. Visit here for UK tickets and here for international tickets.

The shows come on the heels of the band teasing some “significant” plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album at the end of last year, and follow on from them  heading on a 20th anniversary tour in 2016.

In 2022, Molko spoke to NME about the 2016 tour and ‘Best Of’ compilation, and revealed that he was initially opposed to celebrating the band’s legacy in that way.

“We weren’t particularly comfortable with the prospect of doing a retrospective tour,” he said. “At the time we were on Universal Records, and we had the feeling that we’d lose all support from them if we didn’t embark on this hideously materialistic and mercantile endeavour.”

Bandmate Stefan Olsdal agreed: “That tour lasted for quite a long time, and we started to get this slightly unhealthy relationship with our old material. I started to feel quite disillusioned by the band and what we were doing. I had a crisis of confidence coming into this record. I felt during the last tour that the band was over and that I couldn’t continue with this.”

Malko also spoke about their enduring legacy, adding that they always “wanted to keep as much of an open mind as possible and try not to allow ourselves to be burdened by whatever our perceived identity appears to be to others.”
