Scott Mills sacked as DJ from BBC Radio 2 over “personal conduct”

Scott Mills has been sacked by the BBC following allegations over his “personal conduct”.

The 53-year-old presenter, host and DJ joined BBC Radio 2’s weekday schedule after replacing Steve Wright in the afternoon slot in 2022.

Prior to that, he worked on BBC Radio 1 from 1998 onwards, and also hosted that station’s Official Chart show between 2018 and 2022, replacing Greg James.

He hosted the Breakfast Show since January 2025 after taking over from Zoe Ball. Last week (Tuesday March 24), he ended his programme by saying that he would be “back tomorrow”.

The following day, he was absent and it was Gary Davies who stood in for him, although no reason was given.

Then, an official statement was shared from the broadcaster, saying: “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted and has left the BBC”.

It has been widely reported, including by BBC News, that the move comes after allegations regarding his “personal conduct”.

Lorna Clarke, Director of Music at BBC later shared a message with staff regarding the updates. “I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock,” Clarke stated.

“Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV. I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity.”

As highlighted by The Mirror, her statement continued: “Of course, it will also come as a shock to our audience and loyal breakfast show listeners too. I will update everyone with more information on plans for the show when I’m able to.

“While I appreciate many of you will have questions, I hope you can understand that I am not going to be saying anything further now.”

It is not yet clear who will be taking over from his roles at BBC Radio 2.

As well as his time on Radio 1 and Radio 2, Mills also hosted a weekend show on BBC Radio 5 Live. Beyond radio, he has appeared as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, and in 2024 he won BBC’s Celebrity Race Across The World with his husband Sam Vaughan.

When he took over the top job from Zoe Ball, Mills said that working at the station was a “lifelong dream come true” and meant a lot to him to “follow in the footsteps of Sir Terry [Wogan], Chris [Evans] and Zoe” (via The Mirror).
