Twenty One Pilots release cult fan favourite ‘Drag Path’ as a single

Twenty One Pilots release cult fan favourite ‘Drag Path’ as a single

Twenty One Pilots have officially released ‘Drag Path’ as their latest single – listen to it below.

The Ohio duo, comprising Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, originally shared the song as an exclusive bonus track on ‘Breach: Digital Remains’ – a limited-edition expansion of their 2025 album, ‘Breach’.

However, this version of the record was only available for one week. The emotional and epic ‘Drag Path’ subsequently began to take on new life and earn the band new fans. Twenty One Pilots have since returned to the studio to record a new, shortened take on the song.

‘Drag Path’ arrives with an accompanying animated music video, written and directed by Tobias Gundorff Boesen. The visuals were inspired by one of Gundorff’s short films from over a decade ago. Joseph reached out to adapt his short into a video.

The previous version of ‘Drag Path’ was not available on streaming platforms, but went viral online regardless. It racked up more than 1.5billion views across over 75K creations on TikTok.

Explaining their decision to release the single digitally, Twenty One Pilots said: “We had not wanted to release ‘Drag Path’ officially because we wanted to respect those who purchased it [physically], so that’s why we’ve waited. But now we want to release it.

“What we’re gonna do is, we’re gonna release it with a slightly different edit to it so that those who bought it have a more original version of it. So the official released version is gonna be a little bit different, structurally.

“Most of it is intact, but I wanted to save something special for those who purchased it originally.”

They added: “We’re in a rehearsal space now, working on maybe playing this song live this year. Hopefully you’ll like it.”

This summer, Twenty One Pilots will make their debut headline appearance at All Points East 2026 in London’s Victoria Park – marking their only UK performance of the year. The line-up boasts an array of opening acts, such as Wunderhorse, Nova Twins and Pvris.

Twenty One Pilots are also scheduled to top the bill at Electric Castle 2026 alongside The Cure. Other European stops include Sziget, Mad Cool, NOS Alive, Rock Werchter and Pinkpop.

Last month, the band shared the epic trailer for their new concert film More Than We Ever Imagined. The movie arrives at IMAX and cinemas worldwide on February 26 for a limited time, with exclusive IMAX previews beginning on February 25. Tickets are available here.

In 2021, Twenty One Pilots spoke to NME for The Cover around the release of their sixth album ‘Scaled & Icy’. They revealed at the time that the record saw them lean into a new sense of optimism following the pandemic.

“I knew the record could go one of two ways,” Joseph said. “We could directly respond to what was going on in the world, or we could lean into this idea of escaping and almost looking at everything from a different dimension. A dimension that’s more colourful, that’s got a little more positivity to it.”

He added: “That felt more exciting to me, to come down into this studio where I felt like the walls of the place that I was creating were impenetrable. It’s intentionally disconnected from the time in which it was created.”
