Watch Anderson .Paak Invade the K-Pop Scene in the Trailer for His Directorial Debut ‘K-POPS!’

Anderson .Paak’s directorial debut, K-POPS!, is set to hit AMC theaters on Feb. 27 and a trailer for the movie arrived on Wednesday (Jan. 14).

The Grammy-winning artist also stars in the film, which finds him playing BJ, a down-on-his-luck artist in search of a second chance, which arrives when he joins the house band for a K-pop competition show.

The unexpected hits when he discovers a former lover and his long-lost son; the latter is an aspiring musician who’s also a contestant on the Korean competition show vying for fame. There’s a handful of celebrity cameos from streamer Speed, Diplo, SEVENTEEN’s Vernon and Jaden Smith.

The rest of the cast is rounded out by Jonnie “Dumbfoundead” Park, ex U-KISS member Kevin Woo and Yvette Nicole Brown. .Paak’s son (Tae Young) in the movie is played by Soul Rasheed, his real-life son.

“Welcome to K-POPS!, a fun, light-hearted film born from my love for music and inspired by my family while we were quarantined during the pandemic,” Paak shared in a statement about the film in 2024. “During that time, I spent a lot of time with my son, Soul, learned more about him, his interests and his dreams of being involved in the K-pop world. I started to tap into what I was learning about my family and thought, ‘Maybe there’s something here, maybe it could be fun to develop a script around what I’m discovering about my son and myself as a father.’”

K-POPS! debuted north of the border at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024 and then made its premiere stateside at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.

In addition to directing and starring in the film, Anderson .Paak also served as a producer and cowriter for K-POPS!, which will open exclusively in AMC theaters across the U.S. on Feb. 27.
