Weezer Preview Self-Titled Album With ‘We Might As Well Be Strangers’ Featuring Wednesday

Weezer arrives on Aug. 21 and feautres the previously released single “Shine Again”

It’s Weezer Wednesday. The band has previewed its upcoming studio album, Weezer, out Aug. 21, with “We Might As Well Be Strangers,” a new single featuring vocals from Wednesday‘s Karly Hartzman. “Shine Again” arrived as the first single from Weezer in April.

“Plated in what surface instruments call gold. It bears the name Weezer. Its surface is marked by four symbols believed to represent its creators,” Weezer shared on Instagram in a caption accompanying the album’s bright gold cover art. “Carry it with you to the Gathering, and witness what follows.”

The 10-track album marks Weezer’s first full-length LP in five years, following 2021’s Van Weezer. This time around, they recruited producers Klas Ahlund and Kenneth Blume, who wanted to make “the most violent Weezer album ever.” Weezer will look back on their legacy and look ahead to the future across the album, which will come to life on their upcoming Weezer: The Gathering Tour, kicking off in September.

In February, via Weezer’s Discord channel, Rivers Cuomo confirmed the band had completed recording the album. Fans have already heard different variations of some tracks like “Up in the Clouds,” which originally began as a demo during sessions for Everything Will Be Alright in the End, released in 2014.

In 2023, Cuomo told Collider the band’s next album would feature a song titled “CEO,” which functions as a sequel to “The Sweater Song.” “It’s totally meta and mind-bending,” he said. With the album and tour on the way, fans of the band have a lot to look forward to. Last year, Cuomo also confirmed “we’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in L.A. the last couple weeks” during their Coachella performance.

Weezer Track List
1. “Say Yes”
2. “Shine Again”
3. “Don’t Make It Weird”
4. “We Might As Well Be Strangers” ft. Wednesday
5. “C.E.O.”
6. “Hoops”
7. “Nowhere”
8. “The Show Must Go On”
9. “Up in the Clouds”
10. “The LA Sound”
