Jack Antonoff brands AI music makers as “godless whores”

Jack Antonoff has slammed AI music creators as “godless whores”.

The Bleachers frontman took to Instagram on Wednesday (May 13) to post a journal entry where he said writing music “has become and ancient ritual”.

“The idea of optimising what we do is a complete miss of the entire point of what compels us in the first place,” he continued. “We (myself, the band and everyone I know, frankly) have never been looking for this work to become quicker or easier. We were never frustrated by the randomness and magic it takes. We do it for that exact reason – and without the process itself: nothingness.”

He went on to criticise AI users, encouraging them to “by all means drive right off that cliff”.

“We’re genuinely happy to see you go,” Antonoff continued. “Generations coming will be engaging in the ancient ritual of writing, recording and performing as it comes to us from God.”

“So as we embark on this strange detour where the bad actors will willingly reveal themselves through slop, and the struggling great will be further spread thin to make an honest living doing what they were put on Earth to do, we (myself, the band and frankly everyone I know) remain more dedicated than ever to reveal what comes from within.” Antonoff concluded his thoughts on AI by writing: “Godless whores”.

Bleachers are due to release their new album ‘Everyone For 10 Minutes‘ on May 22 via Dirty Hit. So far, they’ve previewed the record with the singles ‘You And Forever’, ‘Dirty Wedding Dress’, ‘The Van’ and ‘I’m Not Joking’. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.

The band will then embark on their biggest Europe and UK headline tour this November, where Antonoff and co. will kick off proceedings in Milan on November 5. Further shows are scheduled in Munich, Berlin, Oslo, Stockholm, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris throughout the month.

From there, Bleachers will head to the UK and Ireland for performances in Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham, Dublin and Manchester. The tour is set to conclude with a gig at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London, on December 3.

Tickets are available for purchase here, and £1/€1 from each ticket sold will be donated to The Ally Coalition to support LGBTQ+ youth. Take a look at all tour dates below:
